OPPORTUNITIES & cHALLENGES FOR
COMMUNITY FORESTRY IN nEPAL
“What is common to many is taken least care of, for all men have greater regard for what is their own than for what they possess in common with others.”
The Nepalese community forestry model has spread around the world. This webinar will discuss key features of success on the ground including 22 thousand Community Forestry Users Groups (CFUGs) involving 45% of the national population which manage more than 40% of national forest areas. The recently approved enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (eNDC) of Nepal has committed to expanding community management to at least 60% of forest areas by 2030. As a representative organization of CFUGs, the Federation of Community Forestry Users, Nepal (FECOFUN) has been continuously advocating community rights over the forest resources for the last 25 years.
